In the years that Emily Jones has studied the viola, she has won several competitions, played alongside world-renowned musicians and received two degrees with honors. Emily’s unique musical approach and expressive nature reach audiences of all fashions. She completed her Bachelor of Music Degree at Boise State University under Dr. Linda Kline-Lamar, a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Miami, Frost School of Music, studying under the direction of Pamela McConnell, and a second Master of Music in Viola Performance from Boise State University. During her time in Miami, she developed an exceptional understanding and appreciation for contemporary music as a violist in the Other Music Ensemble. In this role, she had the opportunity to work closely with emerging student and professional composers to perform and premier their works. She has had the pleasure to share the stage with impeccable artists such as Joshua Bell, Shelly Berg, Edgar Meyer, Mark O’Connor, and Gloria Estefan, with whom she recorded a live PBS Special, “Gloria Estefan: The Standards.” Most recently, she performed with the HMI Orchestra under the direction of James Newton Howard.

Emily is the 2013 winner of the Frost School of Music Britten Viola Competition through which she performed Britten’s Elegy for solo viola at Festival Miami’s Benjamin Britten 100th Birthday Celebration concert. In 2012, during her studies at Boise State University, as a member of TFP Quartet, she received first place in the BCMS Young Artist String Quartet Competition. She was invited to perform as a member of the exclusive Boise State University Graduate Aestus String Quartet from 2016-2018 and performed with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra during those years.

Throughout her college career, she has played with numerous orchestras including the Miami Symphony, Miami Bach Society, Boise Philharmonic, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. She has also attended summer music festivals such as Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, Brevard Music Festival, and LyricaFest. Emily has spent time reaching out to young musicians through high school viola clinics, outreach programs, and private lessons. She currently resides in her hometown of Boise, ID, performing with many artists and ensembles such as Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Idaho, Emily Wells, Nick Jaina, and LED.
